POSITION SUMMARY:  The Stage Ops Lead ensures the safe implementation and execution of stage operations and logistics in all ZACH Theatre performance spaces. They work closely with the Stage Operations Supervisor to provide management, leadership, and training for the Stage Crew. The Stage Ops Lead works in conjunction with the Director and Stage Management to organize the safest and most efficient way to preset, move, and store scenery and props for productions.  The Stage Ops Lead is required to run specific show tracks, including operating Counter-weight fly systems in both show and changeover conditions, as well as serve as primary automations operator.

  • Provides positive leadership, organization, communication, and supervision for overhire and Deck Crew during changeovers, show runs, rentals, fundraisers, and special events.
  • Attends all designer run-thrus, technical rehearsals, performances, additional rehearsals, and production meetings.
  • Assists the Stage Operations Supervisor to orient and train stagehands on stagehand etiquette, safety practices, and standard procedures, as well as supervise smaller work crews as assigned.
  • Assists the Stage Operations Supervisor in carrying soft goods changeovers, rigging of scenery and other goods, and general stage needs for productions, rentals, and special events.
  • Leads flymen, riggers, and stagehands in the implementation and execution of stage logistics for all productions, and leads Deck Crew in pre-show, show operation and post show duties as needed, including cleaning the stage/backstage, setting up/striking props and scenery, scene changes, and daily maintenance, as well as acts as primary liaison between Deck Crew and Stage Management during performances.
  • Maintains close communication with the Stage Operations Supervisor and Stage Management regarding backstage operation and scheduling, as well as makes recommendations for short- and long-term purchases.
  • Solve problems that develop during shifts as necessary, and inform the Stage Operations Supervisor of technical, safety, and personnel issues.
  • Participates in Scenic, Lighting, and Props load-ins as necessary.
  • Participates in annual and regular maintenance of stage machinery and facility including rigging inventory, soft goods, stock goods, aerial work platforms, trap floor systems, fire curtains, and some automation equipment.
