Position Description 
The Director is responsible for all museum operations, personnel supervision, fund raising, grant-writing, financial administration, advocating for the museum and the arts, and liaising with university administrators, faculty, the advisory board and the greater community.

The Director establishes programs including selection and presentation of exhibitions, and educational programs. Also in consultation with the Dean, the Director of the University Art Museum is responsible for developing and implementing the strategic vision and long-range plans for the museum with particular emphasis on the role and mission of an Art Museum in a university context.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
  • Ability to provide strong leadership, vision and strategic direction. Experience developing and implementing strategic plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all aspects of curatorial work including exhibition research, development and installation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of standards and best practices for museums and non-profits.
  • Demonstrated success in managing museum operations, including personnel matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, as well as to work successfully with museum staff, volunteers, and diverse public constituencies.
  • Evidence of success in developing, managing, and growing an annual operating budget.
  • Strong record of success in fundraising and audience development. Strong record of success in grant-writing.
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing and public speaking.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with Boards, volunteers, and in community relations and outreach capacities.
  • Evidence of commitment to educational functions of art and museum exhibitions and functions.
  • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. 
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. 
  • Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."
Education and Experience 
  • Minimum BA in Art, Art History or Museum/Curatorial Studies and an advanced degree in an appropriate discipline such as a MA in Art History or Museum/Curatorial Studies, MFA in Studio Art, Ph.D. in Art History or Museum/Curatorial Studies, M.Arch or MBA Arts Administration required.
  • Extensive background in museum/art center programming and operations; at least two years in managerial/supervisory positions.

Conflict of Interest 
The duties of this position will include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.
